School Profile
Founded in 1898, Annapolis High School was the first public high school to open in Anne Arundel County and among the first in the state of Maryland. The school serves students of all economic levels who reside in the greater Annapolis area.

Academically, Annapolis High is noted for its Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate programs, the Naval Junior ROTC and serves as a magnet school for students learning English as a second language. Approximately 86% of AHS graduates go on to post secondary education.

AHS also has a long athletic history, including its football team that dates to 1899 (with a winning percentage of nearly 70%), a boys’ basketball program that has made more final-four appearances than any high school in Maryland, and lacrosse programs for boys and girls that have won numerous state championships.

Students are required to earn a minimum of 26 credits for graduation. Most credits are earned per semester in half credit increments. Students may take up to 8 classes per semester in a 4-block, A/B day schedule.

Grade / Ranking
A 4.0 scale is the standard in Anne Arundel County with an A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1 and E=0. Weighted grading is used to determine GPA and Class Rank. Honors level classes increase grade weight by .5 and AP/IB increase weight by 1.0 point. Examples are shown below:

Senior Rank is computed at the end of the 12th grade and just prior to graduation. Students who have the same GPA share the same rank number.
